Hustling to pay back a £3.5k spin…

I Crashed My Friend's Lotus

A veritable flurry of Micro-jobbing!! 0

After Micro-job-long-time #10, it was time for a flurry of micro-jobs: could I fill and paint one lodger’s room and paint a kitchen in 2 days? A meaty 4 micro-jobs packed into one weekend?

Of course! Now how to prepare? A charity walk for work on Friday was followed shortly by a free meal and bar and as Saturday dawned, so did a chorus of angry monkeys in my head. Fortunately, I had prior arranged to run 12k with my friend Steve at 8am.

One slightly knackering run later, 1 chicken sandwich and several fizzy pops later, Micro-job man was sharp and back in the game. I started with the kitchen, some sanding and prep work before moving to fill and prep the lodger’s room. As evening came, the first coat went on the kitchen and then it was time for some much needed sleep. 9am Sunday saw the first coat in the lodger’s room, then back to the kitchen, final coat in the lodgers room and then tidying all round..

After 19hrs of DIY, I was too knackered to take any photos…. and went and had a brew before settling into my sofa with a beer…

Still such hustling has meant, I’VE BROKEN THE £2K MARK!!! Yes, only £1953.81 to go!!

No to gambling, so Micro-job #4 beckoned! 0

With Ian’s £35 in the bank, it was time to try out gambling. Standing in front of the cigarette kiosk at my local supermarket, I plucked a quid from my pocket whacked it on the counter and asked the woman behind to change my life. She peeled her lips back to smile, revealing a set of nicotine-stained teeth that would have been better placed on a horse. Well, she had certainly changed my life as I now felt revulsion, but given that wasn’t really what I had in mind, muttered about a scratchcard.

For this potentially life changing moment, I thought,

Let’s not be greedy, go for a low top prize, perhaps more chance of winning?

I scratched away with a chance of winning £6k, could this be the end to all the Lotus elise debt? Alas, no….I won …….

Well, with no life changing cash, it was back to the micro-jobs. So, how about a spot of painting:

With that impressive start, it was obviously soon time to have lunch:

And I pressed on… and pressed on….. and then there was some more pressing on. In fact my micro-job turned out to be not so micro as 8hrs later:

Fortunately, Al was kind enough to recognise the non-microness of the job and Micro-job #4 became Micro-job #4 and #5.

With that in the bank and no lottery win, only £2255.81 to go!!!!!!

First job for Micro-job Man! 0

Well, it was 7:15pm and I was just returning from some hard slog at the office. One of my friends, Emily, rang and asked if I was serious about doing micro-jobs for £35.

“Of course,” I replied, “What do you need doing?”

“Well, you know I’m about to keep bees. I want to put the hive in the back of the garden and the trees block too much of the light.”

(Apparently bees need light near the hive)

It was clearly a job for micro-job man, so I replied “I’ll be there in 20,” donned my red Fulda Challenge boiler suit and hopped in the Swedishmobile. 20 minutes later, I was up a ladder felling tree tops…

Emily and Ian were kind enough to provide a fish and chip supper and as the light faded, Micro-job man pressed on with the felling, sensing the position of trunks to fell with scarily glowing eyes…

Eventually there were no more trees to fell, Ian and Emily’s garden was full of garden waste and it was time to collect the first micro-job payment!
